Episode 9 – Matches, Waterproof Style

21 December 2009 in Miscellaneous

It’s probably safe to say that almost anybody that has camped at least a couple times has come across waterproof matches. In this episode of Camping Gear TV, Ben and Josh review Coghlan’s matches to see just what they can withstand.

Key Takeaways:

  • “A strike anywheres match, you should be able to strike it on anything.” – Josh

What do you think?  Thanks to the peeps that have left some comments for us so far.  We appreciate it very much.

OK guys, I'm not a match expert, but I think the packaging on those says “keeps lit in the rain” not “lights after a bath.” Water wicks through the soaked stick and into the match head in your experiment. I just take an Ohio Blue Tip Match and dip it in nail polish to protect the head. It won't survive a bath, but it will light as well as the camp brands and it is a LOT cheaper.

Good stuff Ed. We definitely agree, there is probably not a match that can
withstand being submerged for any period of time.

hahaha – I like the way you guys interact in your videos. It's quite satirical. Like Ed said, I'm not sure the matches were designed to be soaked to the core but I guess that could be pretty realistic none the less. Still funny.
